BUIES CREEK — Ja’Cor Nelson scored a career-high 21 points and Chris Clemons became the 68th player in NCAA Division I history to reach 2,500 career points Thursday in Campbell’s 100-53 men’s basketball win over Central Penn at Gore Arena.

Clemons, the nation’s leading scorer, tallied 28 points in his 91st-straight double-figure scoring outing, and reached the 2,500-point barrier on a free throw with 17:56 left in the second half. Trey Spencer and Jon Ander Cuadra added 11 points each and Cory Gensler had 10 points for the Camels (5-4), who shot 60 percent for the game and finished with a 28-6 edge in points off turnovers.

Noah Baylor led Central Penn (3-6) with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Tyler White added 11 for the Knights, who shot just 33 percent from the floor and had three more turnovers (21) than made field goals (18-55).

Nelson matched his previous career high with 12 first-half points and Clemons had 16 before the break as the Camels led 50-25 at halftime. The Camels outscored the visitors 29-4 and hit 12-of-13 shots in one segment over an eight-minute span midway through the first half to break open the game.

CU stretched the lead to as many as 47 and led by at least 40 over the last 9:42 after knocking down 11 of 24 threes (.458) on the night and outscoring Central Penn 14-2 on the break.

Clemons hit 8-of-12 shots, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and all 9 of his free throws, while pulling down eight rebounds in 28 minutes. Nelson hit 8-of-14 from the floor, grabbed five rebounds, dealt four assists and made three steals. In addition to a season-high 11 points, Cuadra pulled down a career-best eight rebounds. Andrew Eudy finished with six assists and Brooks Cluxton blocked four shots in his first career start.

With 2511 points in 106 career games, Clemons moved by Bill Bradley of Princeton (2,503 from 1962-65) and Caleb Green of Oral Roberts (2,503 from 2003-07) into 64th place on the all-time Division I scoring list. His double-figure scoring streak is the longest among active Division I players and tied for fourth-longest all-time.

Campbell returns to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Gore Arena against the nation’s highest-scoring team, The Citadel, which averages 103 points per outing.

All active and former military personnel will be admitted free with identification.
