BUIES CREEK — Chris Clemons led four Campbell players into double figures with 28 points and the Camels rolled over Allen 95-48 in men’s college basketball on Wednesday night at Gore Arena.
The nation’s leading scorer (29.5), Clemons hit 11-of-19 shots, including 6-of-11 threes, grabbed eight rebounds and dealt out three assists in just 26 minutes for Campbell (7-7), which led by as many as 48. Andrew Eudy added 13 points, six boards, four assists and three blocks in only 21 minutes, while Ja’Cor Nelson and Jordan Whitfield chipped in 11 points apiece.
Demetrius Richardson was the lone Yellow Jacket in double figures with 13 points as Allen fell to 5-9.
Campbell shot 53 percent on the night and made 11-of-29 threes (.379), while limiting the NAIA member Yellow Jackets to just 27 percent shooting (20-74). CU held a 56-32 advantage on the boards and had 23 assists on 34 field goals.
The Camels used a 17-2 run midway through the first half and led 48-25 at the break. Campbell made nine of its last 10 shots in the opening period and hit 53 percent of its attempts (18-34) before intermission.
CU rode a 26-2 burst early in the second period and took its largest lead (84-36) on Noah Saunders’ three with 9:06 remaining.
With 2,645 points in 111 career games, Clemons moved by Stephen Curry of Davidson (2,635 from 2006-09) into 27th place on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list. The 5-foot-9 senior guard from Raleigh, also scored in double figures for the 96th-straight game, the longest active streak among Division I players and fourth-longest all-time.
Campbell opens Big South Conference play Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. tipoff against Gardner-Webb at Gore Arena.
