Cleveland junior Will Hicks hit two home runs as the Rams topped Midway, 7-4, in the championship game of the Johnston County Easter Invitational at South Johnston’s Bruce Coats Field on Tuesday night.
Hicks was tournament MVP as the Rams won the event for the third straight year.
Senior John McLamb had a 2-run homer to give the 2-A Raiders (9-4) a 2-1 lead in the first.
Midway had topped 4-A Clayton and 3-A Harnett Central before falling to the 4-A Rams, who improved to 11-4.
Jack Dalton overcame seven walks in four and two-thirds innings to get the win for Cleveland. He limited the Raiders to one hit — the round tripper by McLamb — while striking out four.
Caleb Lynn pitched the final two and one-third innings for Coach Jamie Lee, a former South Johnston player. He allowed two hits, two runs (both unearned) while walking one and striking out one.
All-tournament selections for Midway included Carson Tew, Tripp Westbrook, Wyatt Herring and Wyatt Lucas.
The Raiders return to Southeastern Conference play at home against West Bladen on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
