Coach Page Jackson announced after the awards ceremony at North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday that he would be taking the girls tennis state championship trophy home with him.
The second-seeded Eagles won the NCISAA 1-A title, 5-2, over top-seeded Lawrence, ending the disappointment of runner-up finishes the previous two years.
Jackson posted images on the team’s chat to show how he was treating his prized company. His wife was on a family trip to Seattle and the trophy became his cherished guest.
His players enjoyed seeing their coach eating, watching TV and dozing with the hard-earned hardware.
Plans are for the trophy to be presented to the school at the Senior Classic basketball tournament at CFCA on November 15.
