BUIES CREEK — Zac Cutherbertson scored 24 points and Coastal Carolina defeated Campbell 85-75 on Friday night at Gore Arena.

The Chanticleers (2-0) shot 59 percent from the floor (27-46) and made 12-of-14 from the line over the last 3:11 to hold off the Camels (1-1).

Cuthbertson made 7-of-11 from the field and 10-of-14 from the line and grabbed seven rebounds. DeVante Jones added 15 points and 4 assists for Coastal, which made 25-of-34 from the line (.735) overall. Ebrima Dibba and Amidou Bamba chipped in 13 apiece.

Chris Clemons led the Camels with 27 points, including 14-of-17 from the line. Freshman Isaac Chatman added 16 points on 6-of-11 from the field, while Ja’Cor Nelson and Trey Spencer contributed 10 each.

In a game where the lead changed nine times and the score was tied on 12 occasions, Coastal rode a late 8-0 surge to build a double figure lead. After Clemons canned a wing three off Chatman’s assist to cut the lead to 69-67 with 3:34 to play, Cutherbertson made a pair of free throws to start the decisive surge.

Campbell was unable to cut the gap to fewer than six points down the stretch.

The Camels shot 44 percent from the field (24-54), but only made 6-of-28 (.214) threes and 60 percent of their foul shots (21-35). Campbell trailed by only three at the break (38-35) despite hitting just 8-of-18 from the line and the visitors shooting 61 percent (14-23) from the floor in the opening half.

Clemons extended his double-figure scoring streak to 84 games, the longest active stretch in the country, and seventh-longest in NCAA Division I history — one more than both “Pistol” Pete Maravich of LSU (1967-70) and Wayman Tisdale of Oklahoma (1982-85) compiled.
