Falcons 3-0 in middle school baseball; softball wins, 19-4

The Coats-Erwin Middle School baseball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 5–2 win over visiting Overhills on Wednesday.

Jamari Thompson was the winning pitcher. Hayden Pope earned his second consecutive save, striking out five in relief.

Hunter Thompson and Jalen Evans led the Falcons offensively with two hits and two runs apiece.

Also hitting safely were Jamari Thompson, C.J. Herring, and Riley Colville.

The Falcons host Harnett Central today (Thursday, March 29).

C-E softball downs Overhills

Coats-Erwin beat visiting Overhills, 19-4, in four innings of softball Wednesday.

Starter Caylon Avery was the winning pitcher. In two and one-third innings, she yielded four earned runs on three hits and six walks, with one strikeout. Ava Blackman pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing no runs on no hits and two walks, with two strikeouts.

Avery also led all hitters with two hits, a triple and a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored.

Tristan Ennis had two hits, including a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Blackman had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Zeah Ennis had two hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Ashari Watlington had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.

Kimah Warren had one RBI and three runs scored. Jaliyah McDougald, Madison Howlett and Julianna Dinh scored one run apiece.
