Coats-Erwin halts Western’s baseball streak

The visiting Coats-Erwin Middle School baseball team defeated two-time defending conference champion Western Harnett, 6-4, on Monday afternoon, Western’s first loss since the 2016 season.

Dillon Faircloth was the winning pitcher, going six and two-thirds innings and allowing three hits while striking out nine. Hayden Pope got the final out on a strikeout to earn the save.

The Falcons (2-0) took advantage of eight walks and three hit batters. Hitting safely were Dillon Faircloth and Jamari Thompson. Scoring for Coats-Erwin were Hunter Thompson, Jalen Evans (two runs), Jacob Hartman, Nathan Barefoot, and Riley Colville.

Western fell to 1-1.

C-E softball wins

Coats-Erwin took a 10-9 win in softball.

Kimah Warren had two hits, including a home run for the Falcons.

Tristan Ennis had one hit and scored two runs for Coats-Erwin. Gracie Byrd had one hit and scored two runs. Ava Blackman had a double and scored a run. Madison Howlett had two hits and scored a run.

Caylon Avery and Zeah Ennis each had a hit and scored a run. Jaliyah McDougald had one hit. Marley Colville scored a run.

The Falcons host Overhills on Wednesday.
