Coats recreation director Mike Collins said Friday that plans are developing for Coats to combine players with Erwin for future teams and leagues.

The move would involve Coats moving its affiliation from Dixie Youth to Tar Heel Leagues in baseball.

Tar Heel district director Chuck Klaren said he was aware of the plans.

Collins said the two programs would maintain separate recreation departments. Doug Stevens is recreation director in Erwin. Klaren said Stevens presented the plans to his advisory board on Wednesday night.

Collins said the two programs would have a combined pool of players for soccer, which begins registration Aug. 1.

A significant number of the Erwin 10-and-under softball All-Stars, which won the district tournament in Erwin on Wednesday evening, are from Coats, Collins said.
