Coats-Erwin won a pair of middle school contests over visiting rival Dunn on Tuesday, with the volleyball team rallying to win a five-set battle and the soccer team posting a shutout.
Dunn held a 2-0 lead in the volleyball match when Coats-Erwin rallied by winning three straight sets to take the 3-2 victory and pull into a first place tie with Dunn in the Harnett County Conference standings. Individual set scores were 13-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 15-8.
Both the Falcons and the Greenwaves are 10-1 on the season with each giving the other its only loss.
Carleigh Hemby had 13 kills, two blocks and four aces and Camryn Conway had 12 assists and three aces to lead the Falcons.
Mary Charlotte Pope had one kill, one block and five aces. Baylee Reagan had one kill and two aces. Bailey Dorman and Madelyn Parker had two aces apiece.
Olivia Godwin had six kills and four aces and Emma Stanley had one kill, 12 assists and four aces to lead the Greenwaves.
Chyna Massey had four kills and two aces. Gracy Norris had two kills and two aces. Sydney Bradham had two aces. Stephanie Davis had one ace.
On the soccer field, Coats-Erwin took a 5-0 win.
Elias Lopez had a hat trick, with three goals to lead the Falcons, and A.J. Harrell and Edgar Gonzalez had one goal apiece.
Both teams end the season on Thursday, with Dunn traveling to Overhills and Coats-Erwin hosting Western Harnett. If both volleyball teams have the same result, they will share the conference championship. If one wins and the other loses, the winning team takes the championship outright.
