Coats-Erwin tops Central Middle

Jamari Thompson pitched a 5-hitter, allowing only a single unearned run, in leading host Coats–Erwin Middle School to a 4–1 baseball win over Harnett Central on Thursday afternoon.

Coats–Erwin improved to 8–3. The Raiders finished the season with a 10–2 record, both losses coming against the Falcons. .

Thompson went the distance on the mound, striking out 10.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when shortstop Jalen Evans walked, stole second, and scored on Tucker Brown’s 2-out single.

Isaiah Pearson scored for the Raiders in the top of the fifth to tie the score at 1, but the Falcons responded with a 3-run sixth. Catcher Gavin Klein opened the inning with a walk. Pinch runner Aaron Roberts stole second, then scored on Brown’s second single to give the Falcon’s a 2–1 lead. Tucker Reagan and Zachary Roberson followed with walks, with Brown and Reagan scoring on Hunter Thompson’s 2-out double.

Brown, Klein, and first baseman Jaleel White all played well defensively, Brown throwing out a Raider base runner at the plate with a strike from deep left field.

Brown led the Falcons with two hits. Thompson and White had the other Falcon hits.

The Falcons host Highland on Tuesday in their season finale.
