BUIES CREEK — The Campbell women’s basketball team set a program record for points and 3-point field goals in a game as the Camels opened the season with a 122-56 win over St. Andrews at Gore Arena on Tuesday night.

Campbell’s (1-0) 66-point margin of victory was the third largest at home in program history and the largest ever on opening night.

Kianna Speight and Taya Bolden both poured in a game-high 18 points while Shy Tuelle and Brittany Staves added 15 each. Faith Price rounded out the five Campbell double-digit scorers with 12.

Samantha Ring scored 15 points over 25 minutes and Dominique Cooke added 10 in 19 minutes of action for the Knights (1-1).

Campbell was able to bucket 58 points off 34 St. Andrews turnovers. CU got 70 points off the bench.

St. Andrew’s scored the game-opening bucket but Campbell then scored 13 straight as a part of an eventual 33-8 run in the opening half.

The Camels were able to hold their opponent without a field goal over the final 4:07 to help surpass the previous school record of 116 points in a game set against Davidson on Dec. 13, 1983.

Junior guard Julia Crocker pushed the Camels past the previous program record and completed the line of Campbell players to record a bucket by nailing a corner three with 3:24 remaining on the ticker.

Speight, a graduate transfer from Davidson, and Price a rookie from Jamestown, both buried three triples on the night in their first appearance in a Campbell uniform.

Bolden was able to hit double digits on 9-of-12 shooting to pair with eight boards while freshman Brittany Staves went 4-of-6 from the field as well as 4-of-5 from the stripe.

Campbell visits Old Dominion on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
