Dunn 12-U stars win district baseball, 13-3, over Hoke County

After falling behind early, Dunn got its bats going to take a 13-3 win over Hoke County in the championship game of the Dixie Youth District II Majors (12-and-under) baseball tournament in Lillington on Tuesday night.

Starter Wesley Tew was the winning pitcher for Dunn. In one inning, he yielded two earned runs on one hit, two walks and two hit batters, with two strikeouts. Carson Tew pitched three innings, giving up no runs on no hits and three walks, with eight strikeouts.

Wesley Tew had two triples and three runs scored, Carson Tew had two hits, a double and a triple, and three runs scored and Kole Daughtry had two hits and three runs scored to lead Dunn at the plate.

Tyson Stephens had two hits and one run scored. Owen Bruce had one hit and two runs scored. Carson Strickland had one hit. Jamaree Gore scored once.

Tristan Zedhkeia had one hit and one run scored and Rob Wright and Walker Sutherland scored one run apiece for Hoke County.

Hoke County scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. But Dunn scored four runs in the first inning, five in the third and four in the fourth.

The game ended on the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fourth when Daughtry scored when Dylan Henderson reached on an error.

After the game, Lillington was awarded the sportsmanship trophy, prior to Hoke County receiving the runner-up trophy and Dunn receiving the championship trophy.

Both teams will travel to Elizabethtown for the state tournament beginning July 17. Dunn will be in the Division I tournament and Hoke County will be in the Division II tournament.

Prior to the majors game, Hope Mills American beat host Lillington 10-0 in the championship game of the AAA tournament. Hope Mills American was the tournament champion, Lillington was the runner-up and Hoke County was awarded the sportsmanship trophy. Hope Mills American will travel to Norwood for the Division I state tournament and Lillington will go to Dunn for the Division II state tournament. Both tournaments begin July 10.
