Dunn AA 1-1 after day one with high-scoring loss in Dixie state baseball

The opening day of the Dixie Youth AA (8-under, coach pitch) State Baseball Tournament on Saturday saw host Dunn start the day with a win against South Columbus but end the evening with a loss to Hoke County.

In its first game of the day, Dunn beat South Columbus 17-7.

Jackson Williford had four hits and three runs scored. Samuel Hudson had three hits, including a double, and four runs scored. Brody Reardon and Rhett Hamilton each had three hits and two runs scored. Harper Johnson had two hits and two runs scored. Ayden Gary had two hits, including a double, and one run scored. Henry Lawson had two hits and one run scored. Kole Isenhour and Grayson Swain each had one hit and one run scored. Dagen Kerley had one hit.

In its second game, a late rally came up just short as Dunn fell 27-25 in a slugfest against Hoke County.

Kerley and Swain each had four hits and three runs scored. Hudson had four hits and one run scored. Reardon, Isenhour, Lawson and Hamilton each had three hits and three runs scored. Emery Peregoy had three hits and two runs scored. Williford had three hits and one run scored. Gary had two hits and two runs scored. Johnson had two hits and one run scored.

Dunn faces Anson Athletic in an elimination game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
