The Dunn Majors (12-and-under) All-Star baseball team started play in the Dixie district tournament in Lillington on Saturday with a 10-0 win over Hoke County.

Dunn was scheduled to meet host Lillington on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Dunn team (full names) includes Braiden Pierce Arendt, Cody Chase Gilbert, Wyatt Evan Herring, Gehrig Davis Lane, Kasey Ryan Lee, Aaron Dale Martin, Wilson Lee Mayo, Luke Butler Peterson, Pate Ryan Reardon, Caleb Matthew Scruggins, Jayden Lee Stephenson and Camden Gray Wilson.

The team is managed by Greg Matthew Tart.

Lillington also is hosting the Dixie AAA (10-and-under) baseball tournament. Dunn has a bye in the AAA district event because it will be hosting the Dixie state tournament in that age group. Play begins July 6 at the Nathan Harris Athletic Complex at Tyler Park.

The Dunn AAA All-Stars are managed by Brandon Tyndall.

Team members include Tommy Wade Daughtry III, James Alan Hinson, Harrison Michael Honeycutt, Delany Christian Horne, Harrison Edward Johnson, Wyatt Thomas Scott, Davis Lee Spruill, Brycen Douglas Talley, Carson Douglas Tew, Gavin Brandon Tyndall, Tanner Nathan Williams and Peyton Dale Woodall.

Softball

Dunn downed Pembroke 21-0 on Friday in the Ponytails (12-and-under) Traditional Dixie softball district softball tournament in Carthage. Dunn defeated Lumberton, 17-3, and Hope Mills, 6-1, on Saturday.

In the opener against Pembroke, Jordyn Christopher, Reagan Adams, Addie Stanley and Ella Clark combined to pitch the shutout.

Stanley had three hits and three RBIs. Samantha Carter had two hits with a double. Collecting a hit and an RBI each were Karabeth Benton, Mollie Bass, Clark and Christopher.

Carter and Adams each had scoreless stints in the circle against Lumberton.

Benton had three hits and five RBIs. Bass had three hits and three RBIs. Adams had a hit and three RBIs. Carter collected three hits. Christopher and Peyton Herring each had two hits and an RBI. Clark Stanley, Emma Williford and Bailey Dorman also had hits for Dunn.

The Dunn Angels (10-and-under) downed Pembroke 10-0 on Friday in the district softball tournament at Carthage, but were subsequently eliminated with losses on Saturday.
