Dunn Ponytails top Hope Mills

The Dunn Ponytails (12-and-under) All-Star softball team took an 11-1 victory over Hope Mills on Saturday in the Dixie district tournament in Pembroke.

Dunn scored five runs in the first inning.

Lilly McLamb belted an inside-the-park home run that score two in the fourth. Dunn added two more runs on some smart base running to stretch the lead to 9-1. Dunn scored two in the fifth to end the game.

Ashley Bliven had two singles and a sacrifice fly. Emily Scott had a hit on a bunt, Emily Williams had two singles, Carmyn Ivey had a single, Lilly McLamb had the homer and a single. Lindsey Knoll had two singles for Dunn.

Aubree Bass pitched two innings, striking out four batters. She allowed one run on a walk and a throwing error which put a Hope Mills runner on third. Hope Mills grounded out and Dunn elected to trade the run for an out on the coach’s call.

Emily Williams pitched two innings, striking out four and walking one. Emily Scott pitched an inning retiring all three batters on fielder’s choices.

Dunn plays either Moore County or Hope Mills in the district championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.
