Dunn teams advance in day two of Dixie state tournaments

Four Dunn teams playing in Dixie Youth state baseball and softball tournaments followed up on opening wins Saturday with day two victories on Sunday.

In Laurinburg, site of the softball, the Dunn Ponytails (12-and-under) got a combined no-hitter from Aubree Bass, Emily Scott and Carmyn Ivey in a 13-0 win over Moore County in four innings.

The Dunn Angels (10-and-under) softball All-Stars topped Lumberton 18-0 in a three-inning no-hitter by Jordyn Christopher, Samantha Carter and Addie Stanley. Dunn had 14 hits.

Dunn’s Darlings (8-and-under, coach pitch) prevailed 7-2 over East Columbus.

In Kenansville, the Dunn Majors (12-and-under) baseball All-Stars got home runs from John Nelson McLamb, Jamari Thompson and Anthony Jones in a 14-1 win over Richlands.

Ponytails

Bass faced four batters, striking out one, walking one and getting the other two outs on a fly out and a ground out to first. Scott pitched the second inning, facing four batters. She struck out two, walked one and got one out on a fielder’s choice.

Ivey pitched the last two innings, striking out two batters, getting two to ground out then catching a line drive to the mound and turning a double play at first.

Dunn got the bats going with 12 runs in the first inning. The area team scored one more off a sacrifice fly to left by Jazmin Rummel.

Ashley Bliven had two singles. Scott had a triple and a double. Emily Williams, Bass, Marley Colville, Lilly McLamb, Lindsey Knoll, Anna Dudley and Berkley Campbell had singles. Ivey had a double and a single.

“We came out hitting the ball like we should today,” said Dunn coach Jeremy Bass. “Our pitchers and defense did the rest.”

Dunn plays Hope Mills today (Monday, July 16) at 1 p.m.

Angels

Christopher struck out all three batters she faced in getting the win. Carter had two strikeouts in an inning in the circle. Stanley recorded three whiffs and two walks in the third inning.

Dunn totaled 14 hits.

“We swung the bats,” said Dunn coach Cullen Clark.

Eva Kate McLamb went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Christopher was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Olivia Crumpler was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Ella Clark went 2-for-2. Carter and Peyton Herring each had doubles.

Dunn plays Hope Mills today at 1:30.

Darlings

Janiah Amerson started the game by making the first catch in left field for Dunn.

Analeigh Jones hit an in-the-park home run. Aubrey Horne hit well.

Kelsey Matthews made some good plays at shortstop.

The Angels play again on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Majors

Thompson pitched two innings with five strikeouts for Dunn. Jalen Evans tossed one inning with a whiff. McLamb went two innings with two strikeouts.

Dunn had 15 hits.

Jones had three hits. Getting two hits each were Ross Stevens, Evans, McLamb, Thompson and Tripp Westbrook.

Wyatt Lucas and Braxton Davis had one hit apiece.

Dunn plays SouthPark tonight (Monday, July 16) at 8 p.m.
