Dunn teams get wins

Dunn’s Jordyn Christopher struck out the side in the final inning on Monday.

Three teams from Dunn got wins Monday in Dixie Youth state tournaments in baseball and softball.

In games in Laurinburg, the Dunn Angels (10-and-under) softball All-Stars edged Hope Mills 2-1 as Jordyn Christopher and Eva Kate McLamb pitched in the defensive battle.

The Dunn Ponytails (12-and-under) All-Stars also remained unbeaten with a 17-0 win over Hope Mills.

In the Majors (12-and-under) baseball in Kenansville, Dunn prevailed 11-6 over SouthPark and improved to 3-0 in the state tournament.

Angels

Peyton Herring hit a ball back to the pitcher that brought in one run in the second inning on Monday and the second run came in on a subsequent throwing error.

Molly Bass and Olivia Crumpler scored for Dunn.

Herring, Crumpler, Ella Clark and Kara Beth Benton had hits for Dunn.

Christopher pitched the first two innings and returned to the circle in the fifth to close the contest. Christopher struck out the side in the fifth and finished with four whiffs. She allowed a total of three hits and yielded a run in the second inning.

Eva Kate McLamb pitched the third and fourth innings. She recorded three strikeouts while walking three and allowing one hit.

Dunn meets Topsail today at 3 p.m.

Ponytails

Dunn pitchers combined for a one hit shutout. Aubree Bass pitched one inning, facing three batters and striking out all three. Emily Williams pitched one inning, striking out three and allowing one hit.

Emily Scott pitched one inning. She faced four batters, striking out two and getting one to fly out. Carmyn Ivey pitched one inning with one whiff and two fly outs.

Dunn was held scoreless the first inning but got the bats going and scored nine in the second, five in the third and three in fourth.

Ashley Bliven got a base hit. Scott had a double and sacrifice fly. Bass had three singles, Marley Colville had a sacrifice fly. Ivey had three singles. Lilly McLamb had a triple. Harmony Horne had a sacrifice bunt and a bunt for a hit. Lindsey Knoll had a double and a sacrifice bunt. Jazmin Rummel has a triple and a double. Anna Dudley had a triple.

“We hit the ball well after the first inning,” said Dunn coach Jeremy Bass. “Our pitching was on and our defense backed them up.”

Dunn plays Scotland County today (Tuesday, July 17) at 6 p.m.

Majors

Ross Stevens hit a home run to center field after Wyatt Lucas had a hit to give Dunn an early 2-0 lead against SouthPark on Monday night.

Dunn faced a 5-2 deficit in the fourth inning.

“I challenged them to come to life,” said Dunn coach Charlie Stevens.

The area All-Stars responded with seven runs for a 9-5 lead and added two more runs in the fifth.

Dunn had a 12-6 lead in hits. Stevens, John Nelson McLamb and winning pitcher Jamari Thompson combined for nine strikeouts.

Anthony Jones had three hits for Dunn. Lucas and Ross had two hits each. Hunter Tyndall, Jalen Evans, McLamb, Gabe Dapuyen and Braxton Davis had one hit apiece.

Dunn plays Leland tonight (Tuesday, July 17) at 8 p.m.
