The fourth day of the Dixie Youth state baseball tournament saw host Dunn split a pair of close games, with the Majors (11-12) team staving off elimination with a win over Lockwood Folly and the AAA (9-10) team taking its first loss of the tournament to Mount Holly on Tuesday night.
The tournaments are being played at the Nathan Harris Athletic Complex at Tyler Park in Dunn.
In the Majors tournament, Dunn scored six runs in the last three innings to rally for a 12-10 victory.
Right-hander Peyton Woodall recorded the win on the mound for Dunn in one-and-one-third innings of relief, giving up no runs on no hits and no walks, with one strikeout. Left-hander Tyson Stephens pitched one inning to earn the save, yielding no runs on no hits and no walks, with two strikeouts.
Levi Trent had three hits, including a double and a triple, with one run. Gavin Bates had three hits, including a double, with one run. London Hinson had two hits, including a double, with two runs. Woodall had two hits and two runs. Stephens had one hit and two runs. Gavin Blackman had one hit and one run. Fisher Batten and Xaiden Brent scored one run apiece.
Lockwood Folly scored one run in the second inning and nine in the third. Dunn scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Dunn will meet West Duplin in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Carlie C’s IGA Field.
AAA
In the AAA tournament, Dunn rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take a late one-run lead, but Mount Holly scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win, 7-6.
Crayton Stanley had two hits and one run. Asher Tyndall, Mason White and Chase Smith each had one hit and one run. Khristian Austin had one hit. Ayden Gary and Brody Reardon scored one run each.
Mount Holly scored five runs in the first inning and two in the sixth.
Dunn scored two runs in the fourth inning and four in the sixth.
Dunn faces Town Creek in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesda at Greenwaves Field.
