The Dunn Majors (12-and-under) All-Star team was topped, 8-5, by Burgaw in an elimination game at Ocean Isle Park in the Diamond Youth Baseball Division 2 state tournament on Sunday.
Dunn was leading, 3-2, when there was a weather delay in the third inning that lasted for about an hour.
Burgaw had a 3-run homer after play resumed.
“The rain delay killed our momentum,” said Dunn coach Jordan Boggs.
Thomas Maultsby, Emory Peregoy and Harper Johnson had two hits each for Dunn, which was topped, 9-4, by Kenansville in its opening game on Saturday.
Brantley Matthews and Brooks Lanpher had hits in the top of the second to start a 2-run frame and extend the lead to 3-0. Johnson had a hit and scored on an error in the first.
Maultsby pitched four and innings Sunday and Peregoy finished on the mound.
AAA plays Monday
The Dunn AAA All-Stars (10-and-under) take on Bladen County on Field 2 at Ocean Isle Park in an elimination game on Monday at 5 p.m.
The Dunn stars were topped, 8-5, by Bessemer City on Sunday after winning their opening game Saturday, 11-4, over North Duplin,
