Eagle softball tunes up for playoffs on McLamb’s Senior Day

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team honored its lone senior, Anslee McLamb, and won its eighth straight game with a 16-1 victory in five innings over visiting Mintz Christian Academy on Monday.

Cailee Ray and Mariah Bell hit home runs as the Eagles improved to 8-2-1 going into the NCISAA 1-A playoffs.

Rhyleigh Horne pitched a completed game, allowing one hit and one run (unearned) with no walks and 11 strikeouts.

Bell had two hits with a triple and three RBIs. Horne was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Ray drove in a pair of runs. Kristina Kennedy was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Bekah Ennis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Averi Williams, Aarin Marlow and Kailynn Cumbie also had hits for CFCA.

McLamb scored and had an RBI.

The Eagles have a first-round bye in the NCISAA tournament and will host Tuesday’s winner between Lee Christian (0-3) and the Oakwood School (4-4) on Friday at 4 p.m.

In the first game Monday, CFCA completed an unbeaten middle school season with a 15-0 win over Mintz.
