Eagle teams enter NCISAA playoffs this week

Teams from Cape Fear Christian Academy will be competing in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association fall sports playoffs beginning this week.

The CFCA girls tennis team (12-1) is seeded second among 1-A teams and will host Pungo Christian on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Eagles are seeded third in boys soccer and will be home on Thursday to play Oakwood at 4 p.m. CFCA (5-7-1) was topped 3-2 in overtime at Crossroads Christian in the Mid-Carolina Conference tournament final on Friday. Caden Scarborough scored to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the half. Tripp Selph scored his 14th goal of the season for CFCA in the second half.

Crossroads scored twice on penalty kicks, including the deciding goal. All-conference selections from the Eagles included Selph, Scarborough and Jackson Breslin. The all-tournament team included Trevor McLamb, Scarborough and Selph.

CFCA, which won the Mid-Carolina Conference varsity volleyball tournament at home on Friday night by a 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18) margin over visiting Lee Christian, is the second seed in the NCISAA bracket and will be home to take on Lawrence Academy in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Sophomore Abby Hobbs of the Eagles was named the conference Player of the Year in volleyball. She had seven aces, 24 assists, 12 kills and 10 digs on Friday. Bailey Dorman had 14 kills and 10 digs. Libero Rhyleigh Horne had 23 digs.

Meredith Taylor made three blocks and Larah Tripp made two. Aslan Parrish made 11 digs. Madeline Brocious finished with five kills and five digs.

Making all-conference from CFCA were Hobbs, Dorman, Horne and Taylor. The all-tournament teaam included Laney Avery, Brocious and Larah Tripp.
