Cape Fear Christian Academy’s baseball and girls soccer teams played first-round games Tuesday in Sandhills Athletic Conference tournaments.

The Eagles took an 8-3 loss at home in baseball and were topped 7-3 in girls soccer at Northwood Temple.

CFCA had an early lead in baseball.

In the bottom of the first, Zeke Brock was hit by pitch, stole second and scored on Reid Miiler’s ground out to second for a 1-0 lead.

Unearned runs helped Trinity to a 2-1 lead through three innings. Each team added runs in the fifth.

Jaden Crumley led off with a shot down the left field line for the Eagles. Miller singled to left. Wesley Jackson had an RBI single.

Trinity scored four runs in the sixth on two walks and two hits. An unearned run in the seventh extended the Crusaders’ lead to 8-2.

Wyatt Medlin led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and Trevor McLamb doubled. Medlin scored on a ground out by David Clearman.

Brock pitched a complete game for the Eagles. he allowed five hits and four earned runs while walking four and hitting two batters. He struck out 12.

Crumley, McLamb and A.J. McGarvey were each 2-for-4 for the Eagles. Jackson was 1-for-1 with two walks. Miller, Clearman and Jackson Bolton each had one hit. River Ennis drew a pair of walks.

The Eagles won four games in 2019, including two in league play, after going winless the previous season.

Soccer score deceptive

CFCA girls soccer coach noted that the final score was deceptive because his club was within 4-3 with 15 minutes remaining.

Ella John Dupree had two unassisted goals for CFCA. Lexi Crumley tallied on a breakaway.

Breslin was very pleased with the improvement his team showed during the course of the season. CFCA had two wins after not fielding a varsity girls soccer team in 2018.

CFCA’s River Ennis is safe at third in Tuesday’s SAC Tournament game.
