Cape Fear Christian Academy bounced back from a season-opening Sandhills Athletic Conference loss at Northwood Temple to win a league match, 3-1, at Village Christian on Tuesday.,
The Eagles (1-1) visit Fayetteville Christian on Thursday.
“After the loss, we went back to basics and focused on fixing the little things,” said CFCA coach Brittany Ter Meer. “It finally clicked that it’s important to create your own energy.
“I’m excited to see how the rest of the matches this year will go with a team that can fix things in one practice.”
Set scores Thursday were 25-14, 16-25, 25-11 and 25-15.
Gracie Byrd had 15 kills. Meredith Taylor finished with eight kills and six blocks. Reyna Johnson had eight kills. Mariah Bell had six blocks and Marlee Butler served four aces.
CFCA took the junior varsity match, 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) as the younger Eagles improved to 2-0 for the season.
Soccer topped, 2-1
Village took a 2-1 win in varsity boys soccer over visiting CFCA.
The Eagles got a second-half goal from Dolan Adams off a direct kick by Jackson Breslin after trailing 1-0 at the half.
“They played well considering this was their first game,” said CFCA coach Michael Breslin.
