Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team got five innings of perfect pitching from Gardner-Webb signee Glenna McLamb and scored six runs in the fourth inning to defeat Ridgecroft, 7-1, in the NCISAA 1-A semifinals at Campbell on Thursday evening.
The Eagles (10-1) originally were scheduled to host the game on Tuesday, but two days of rain intervened before the contest was played on the synthetic surface at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
McLamb struck out 14 of the 15 batters she faced before eighth-grader Finley Phillips finished in the circle. The Rams (10-6) got their only hit with two out in the seventh.
CFCA took a 1-0 lead in the second on an unearned run.
In the fourth, Caylee Braswell had an RBI single and Kristina Kennedy drove in two runs with a hit. Errors allowed three runs.
Megan Harrold and McLamb each had two hits and scored a run. Hailey Dupree had a hit, a run and an RBI. Hailey Wangelin had a hit and scored a run. Larah Tripp had an RBI and Finley Phillips had a hit.
Finley Phillips had two strikeouts in two innings.
McLamb has 405 career strikeouts, including 39 at Midway as a freshman.
CFCA starts the best of three state championship series at North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Lawrence (20-5). Game two will follow. Game three, if necessary, is scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
