Cape Fear Cristian Academy took an 18-0 nonconference varsity baseball win in five innings over visiting Fayetteville Christian School on Tuesday as Taylor Smith pitched a 3-hit shutout with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Smith’s effort prevented a comeback by the Warriors, who trailed, 8-1, after four innings last season, before rallying for a 13-8 win.

The series is 2-2 over the last three seasons, but the most recent matchup was easily the most decisive as CFCA scored in every inning, including 10 runs in the third.

“We had a good eye at the plate,” noted Eagles coach Bill Parrish after CFCA had drawn 10 walks in addition to 15 hits in improving to 4-3.

Parker McLamb had two hits with a double and four RBIs. Tyson Stephens had a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

Getting two hits each were Eli Burns (double, 3 runs, RBI), Mason Gregory (1 RBI) and Cooper Davis (1 run, 2 RBIs).

Steven Hicks, Fisher Stancil (double, RBI), Smith (3 runs, RBI), Landon McLamb and Conner Parrish (3 runs) had one hit each. Every Eagle reached base as Elijah Ellis had a walk.

Stephens, Stancil, Smith and Parrish each had two stolen bases as the Eagles swiped 11 for the game.

CFCA had an errorless day defensively with Gregory handling a team-high seven chances.

The Eagles are scheduled to host a middle school/varsity baseball doubleheader with Halifax on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
