Cape Fear Christan Academy’s varsity baseball and softball teams took nonconference wins over visiting Christ the Cornerstone of Laurinburg on Tuesday.
The Eagles improved to 7-4 in baseball with a 6-1 triumph.
The CFCA softball team moved to 6-0 with a 15-0 victory in three innings.
Varsity Baseball
The Defenders started the week 5-0 and were ranked No. 42 among 515 public and private schools in the state by MaxPreps, but the Eagles scored three runs in the second inning and never trailed.
Cape Fear Christian Academy Varsity Eagles walked away with a 6-1 victory today over visiting Christ the Cornerstone Academy Defenders.
CFCA starter Eli Burns yielded just two hits and no runs over five innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
Fisher Stancil pitched the last two innings. He yielded one hit and one run (earned) with no walks and one strikeout.
Mason Gregory was 3-for-3 at the plate with a run-scoring double. Taylor Smith went 3-for-4 with a run. Parker McLamb had a hit, a walk and scored two runs. Cooper Davis had a hit and an RBI.
CFCA has won four of its last five, allowing just 3.8 runs during that span.
The Eagles had some defensive gems that included a double play initiated by a diving catch by first baseman Conner Parrish, a well-played hunt by Davis at third, two pickoffs and a runner caught stealing by Gregory at catcher as Stancil applied the tag from shortstop.
CFCA visits Village (8-3) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Varsity Softball
Gardner-Webb signee Glenna McLamb pitched one inning of a no-hitter and Finley Phillips pitched two innings. McLamb struck out three and Phillips fanned five.
Megan Harrold and Hailey Wangelin each drove in three runs against the Defenders (1-2).
Getting two hits and scoring three runs apiece were Harrold, George Mason commit Kristina Kennedy and Wangelin.
Caylee Braswell scored two runs. Hailey Dupree had a run and an RBI. McLamb had a hit and two RBIs. Larah Tripp scored a run. Sailor Phillips had a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Finley Phillips scored a run and had an RBI.
The Eagles are scheduled to visit Pungo on Friday at 4 p.m. The Raiders were 307 going into a game at Northeast on Thursday.
