Eagles get basketball campaign underway

Cape Fear Christian Academy had its Blue-Gold scrimmages on Friday and its upper school teams went to a jamboree in Fayetteville on Saturday.

The Eagles officially start the 2023-24 season with varsity girls and boys games hosted by Trinity Christian at Fuller Gym in Fayetteville on Tuesday evening.

Ray Butts is coaching the Lady Eagles after a successful tenure as middle school girls coach. He guided CFCA to a 34-30 win over Grace Christian of Raleigh on Saturday at Northwood Temple as Ella John Dupree scored 12 points and Perri Caroline Ennis added 10. Savannah Autry and Laney Trainer added six points each.

Dwain Ellis returns as varsity boys coach with a strong nucleus of returning players. Zeke Brock had 14 points Saturday in a loss to Northwood Temple. Jakson Cullen had 12 points and Caden Scarborough netted six.

The Eagles host Wake Christian on Thursday night.
