Cape Fear Christian Academy swept middle school and varsity basketball doubleheaders on Monday.
The Eagle varsities opened Mid-Carolina Conference play against Bradford at the Mebane Arts and Community Center with the girls pulling out a 49-48 victory before the boys cruised to 6-0 with an 80-16 triumph.
The CFCA middle school teams hosted Old Mainstream Academy, a new school in Pembroke, in nonconference matchups. The Eagle girls took a 46-6 win. The CFCA boys prevailed, 59-4.
Elijah Ellis led the Eagle varsity boys with 17 points. Kayden Dunkins scored 16. Caden Scarborough and Cade Godwin each had 15 points.
Conner Parrish scored eight and Justin Chestnut tallied seven.
“It was a great effort to take into Thanksgiving break,” said varsity boys coach Dwain Ellis.
Bradford came back from 18 points down to take the lead in the fourth quarter before Lily Kate Dupree got the deciding basket for the Eagles. CFCA got a defensive stop and ran out the clock to seal the outcome.
Savannah Autry had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Eagles. Glenna McLamb scored 12 points. Christianna Wynns had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Dupree had five points and three rebounds.
Mary Andemichael contributed four points. Ela Wilborn had three points and four rebounds.
Middle School
Eli Shwaikeh had 19 points for the CFCA middle school boys. Ben Thompson and Henry Smith scored eight points each. Sam Hudson had seven points. Luke Meyer and John Andemichael added four points each. River Stancil scored three.
Getting two points each were Braxton Register, Reid Jones and Carter Glass.
Kinley Godwin had 15 points for the girls and Hayden Deese had 14.
Ellie Shwaikeh had five points. Ava Brooke Bailey and Carolina Wynns netted four points apiece.
