After a 10-0 start, the Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team absorbed a pair of losses in the Southeastern Shoreline Shootout in Shallotte.
The Eagles (10-2) were on the short end of a 54-37 score with host Southeastern Christian in the consolation game on Saturday,
“Frustrating,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis. “We have to treat it as a learning experience.”
Each team was assessed two technical fouls in the final minute after a shoving incident.
The Eagles were without leading scorer Kayden Dunkins for the second straight game. Dunkins is averaging 15.7 points.
Dunkins scored 25 points in a 60-51 win over Southeastern in the semifinals of the Senior Classic at CFCA on November 15.
Caden Scarborough paced the Eagles with 14 points in the second meeting with the Warriors. Elijah Ellis scored nine. Rounding out the CFCA scoring column were Justin Chestnut (6), Lathan Wilborn (5), Conner Parrish (2) and Cade Godwin (1).
The CFCA boys meet Fayetteville Christian in an event at Berean Baptist on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Lady Eagles
CFCA (3-5) closed an early 17-3 deficit to 21-14 at the half and played a competitive second half in a 41-32 loss to Lee Christian on Saturday.
Glenna McLamb had 14 points to lead the Lady Eagles in the third-place matchup.
Courtney Butts scored six. Mary Andemichael and Ella Wilborn had four points each. Grace Bruha and Jada Johnson added two points apiece.
The CFCA girls will meet the Falcons again in their next game, a Mid-Carolina Conference matchup in the Eagles’ gym on Tuesday, January 7, at 5:30 p.m.
