Cape Fear Christian Academy completed a successful run into its holiday break with an 81-22 Mid-Carolina Conference varsity boys basketball victory over visiting Cresset Christian of Durham on Friday night.
Kayden Dunkins scored 20 points as the Eagles improved to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Cresset’s varsity girls team, which has upgraded its talent level significantly since last season, was a 64-18 winner.
CFCA swept middle school matchups at Lee Christian on Thursday and took a pair of wins at home over Cresset on Friday.’
The CFCA junior varsity boys got their seventh straight win, 47-30, at Village Christian in Fayetteville on Thursday night.
Varsity Boys
CFCA coach Dwain Ellis started seniors Zeke Brock, Jakson Cullen, Wyatt Medlin, Patrick Raynor and Cole Godwin. That group played the first quarter.
Caden Scarborough, Elijah Ellis, Justin Chestnut, Dukins and Lathan Wilborn played the second quarter against Cresset, which fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the MCC.
Ellis used the same lineups by quarter in the second half. CFCA’s lead grew to 40 points in the third quarter, creating a running clock.
Wilborn finished with 16 points. Brock scored 11. Godwin had nine points. Scarborough, Medlin and Micah Andemichael, on his birthday, each had five points. Cullen and Chestnut contributed four points apiece. Ellis added two points.
“Great effort from everyone,” said Coach Ellis.
Varsity Girls
Scoring four points each for the Lady Eagles (3-5, 2-2 MCC) were Savannah Autry, Ella John Dupree and Madeline Brocious. Perri Caroline Ennis and Laney Trainer added three points apiece.
CFCA coach Ray Butts cited 36 turnovers as a crucial factor in the outcome.
Middle School
In games at Lee Christian on Thursday, CFCA took a 49-18 win in the girls game and prevailed, 34-26, in the boys game.
Scoring totals for the girls game included Ella Wilborn with 12 points, Mary Andemichaal (10), Carolina Wynns (9), Kinsley Godwin (6), Grace Bruha (5), Finley Phillips (3). Hayden Deese (2), Avery Lassiter (1) and Mady Tyndall (1).
Eli Shwaikeh had 15 points to pace the CFCA boys. Gunner Dorman had six points. Luke Meyer scored three. Getting two points each were Sawyer Tyndall, Tyson Stephens, Cooper Davis and Parker McLamb.
Against Cresset, the CFCA girls won, 29-20, and the CFCA boys came out on top, 40-24.
Godwin had eight points for the CFCA girls on Friday. Wynns netted five points. Finley Phillips and Wilborn had four points each. Lily Stanley and Lassiter had three points each. Bruha scored two.
Shwaikeh had 20 points in the boys game Friday and Stephens tallied 16. McLamb and Ben Thompson had two points each.
Junior Varsity Boys
CFCA is 7-1 overall after Justin Chestnut had 16 points and 16 rebounds on Thursday night.
Conner Parrish managed seven points and six rebounds despite foul trouble. Fisher Stancil, Elijah Ellis and Cade Godwin scored six points each. Eli Burns added three poiunts, Greyson Avent scored two and Taylor Smith had one point.
Coach Bill Parrish went to man to man defense full court in the second half and the Eagles limited the Knights to one point in the third quarter.
