Eagles make dramatic comeback on Eighth-Grade Day for 15-14 win

The Cape Fear Christian Academy middle school baseball team overcame a 6-run deficit over the last two innings for a 15-14 walk-off win Wednesday over Old Main Stream Academy of Pembroke on Eighth-Grade Day for the Eagles.

The winning run scored when eighth-grader Garrett Chapman put the ball in play with two outs in the last inning and the visitors committed an error that allowed the winning run.

CFCA played Old Main Stream to a tie in eight innings in an earlier meeting in Pembroke.

The Eagles had a 16-11 lead in hits on Wednesday.

Carter Glass went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. He pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the win.

Cam Brock drove in three runs.

Braxton Young (double), Colton Carroll (double) and Chapman had two hits each. Reid Jones and Colton Carroll had doubles. Talton Herring drew two of CFCA’s six walks.

Landon Dupree (3) and Henry Smith (2) had multiple steals as the hosts had 10 stolen bases.

The Eagles (7-1-1) turned one double play.

CFCA is scheduled to host the Mid-Carolina Conference middle school tournament championship on Tuesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. against the winner on Monday, April 28, between Lee Christian and Crossroads.

The Eagles earned the top seeding with a 4-0 league record.
