Cape Fear Christian Academy presented awards for spring sports as well as major athletic awards for the year at a banquet in the gym on Thursday night.

Trevor McLamb, a senior who stood out in soccer, basketball and baseball, was named Male Athlete of the Year. He plans to enroll at East Carolina.

Female Athlete of the Year honors went to seniors Rhyleigh Horne and Meredith Taylor. Horne was all-state in volleyball and softball. She has signed to play softball at Meredith. Taylor overcame knee surgery last year to be a significant contributor in volleyball and basketball in addition to cheerleading. Taylor has been accepted to Tennessee.

The gathering enjoyed a main course of barbecue chicken prepared by Andy Beasley of the Booster Club after the welcome by athletic director, Al Myatt, and the blessing/prayer by head of school, Johnna Skatell.

Eagle Awards for service were presented to Anna Jackson for the girls by Beth Brocious, chairperson of the Booster Club, and to Gavin Harris for the boys by Lolita Tripp, Booster Club treasurer.

The Booster Club presented scholarships to Will Hobbs of the state champion boys soccer team and to Nina Sauer, an all-state performer in girls tennis and a defensive back in soccer.

Academic Athletes of the Year honors went to Syracuse-bound Jackson Breslin for the boys and multi-sport junior Ella John Dupree for the girls.

The Impact Awards go to first-year students who contribute immediately in athletics. Caden Pope, all-state in soccer and point guard for the junior varsity basketball team which won Mid-Carolina 1-A Conference regular season and tournament championships, was the boys winner.

Bailey Dorman and Glenna McLamb were co-winners of the Female Impact Awards. Dorman was all-state in volleyball and showed her ability in softball during a roster shortage. McLamb showed ability in basketball and became a top pitcher in softball upon arriving at CFCA.

The Middle School Athlete of the Year recognition went to Lathan Wilborn for the boys and Lily Kate Dupree for the girls.

The Middle School Academic awards went to Cade Godwin and Kaitlyn Ammons.

The Eagles won Mid-Carolina Conference championships for regular season and tournament in varsity baseball.

CFCA won regular season and tournament titles in the MCC in girls soccer and softball on the middle school level.

The Eagles won the regular season middle school baseball championship in the MCC.

Highlights for the perennially-strong varsity softball team included a come-from-behind 8-6 win over eventual 2-A state champion Wayne Christian, a perfect game by Horne and a walk-off home run by Kristina Kennedy in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

It was announced that Bill Parrish will be varsity boys soccer coach going forward. Michael Breslin, who guided the Eagles to the NCISAA 1-A crown in the fall, had decided earlier to leave the faculty and coaching at CFCA.
