Cape Fear Christian Academy got 41 points from senior guard Zeke Brock in an 82-62 nonconference varsity boys basketball win over Gray’s Creek in the MLK Jam at Terry Sanford on Monday.
The Eagles took the game on short notice after Fayetteville Christian backed out. CFCA only had six players due to illness, previous commitments and work schedule conflicts.
Brock scored 27 in the second half as the Eagles (8-8) pulled away from a 35-33 lead at intermission.
Justin Chestnut scored 17 points and controlled 14 rebounds for CFCA, which returns to Mid-Carolina 1-A Conference play at home against Lee Christian on Tuesday night.
Kayden Dunkins scored 13 points in the win.
“We had good chemistry,” said Eagles coach Dwain Ellis. “We weren’t worried about anything. It was refreshing, fun to watch.”
Caden Scarborough had six points and seven assists as he played a lot at the point, which allowed Brock to operate from the wing. Elijah Ellis had six points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Patrick Raynor added two points.
“Pat had a great defensive effort,” Ellis said.
Gray’s Creek, an NCHSAA 4-A school, fell to 2-8.
