After a larger lead dwindled to a 43-33 advantage at halftime, the Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team pulled away for an 89-59 win over Bethel Christian of Kinston in the championship game of the CFCA Holiday Invitational on Thursday night.
Deshaun Woods had 25 points, Reid Miller scored 23 and Zeke Brock added 22 with 18 assists as the Eagles improved to 7-6 going into their Sandhills Athletic Conference opener at home against Northwood Temple on Tuesday night.
“We played well, especially in the second half,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis.
The Eagles won their third straight since Brock, a sophomore point guard, returned from an ankle injury.
Jakson Cullen had eight points before going out with a knee injury. David Okropiridze scored seven. Jackson Bolton and Elijah Ellis tallied two points each.
Bethel (6-3) was led by 22 points from Easton Truett. Josh Holmes netted 18 for the Trojans.
Miller made 11 of 14 field goal attempts as the Eagles shot 57 percent (39 for 69). Woods had eight rebounds and Brock made eight steals. Miller claimed eight boards.
The Chatham Thunder took the boys consolation game, 52-34, over Lee Christian.
