Eagles start baseball with 27-0 no-hit triumph over host Northwood Temple

Fisher Stancil and Cole Godwin combined for a three inning no-hitter and Godwin went 3-for-3 as Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity baseball team defeated host Northwood Temple Academy, 27-0, to start its season on Tuesday.

Godwin singled twice in the first inning when the Eagles scored 14 runs and he singled again in the fourth.

In the first inning, Godwin had an RBO singled. Taylor Smith and Eli Burns drew walks to force in runs. An NTA error allowed two runs. A dropped third strike permitted a run. Another run scored on an error.

Zeke Brock hit a sacrifice fly. Fisher Stancil had a run-scoring single. Godwin singled again scoring one run.
Burns singled, scoring three runs and a wild pitch allowed a run.

The Eagles added two runs in the second to lead, 16-0, as Conner Parrish drove in a run with a base hit and Burns had a sacrifice fly.

Nine runs in the third inning were the result of a sacrifice fly by Brock, bases-loaded walks to Parrish and Landon Wangelin, an RBI single by Smith, as well as Burns, Lathan Wilborn and Chris Crume being hit by pitches, an RBI single by Brock and a ground out by Smith that brought in a run.

Fisher Stancil got the win as he yielded no hits while striking out five in two innings without a walk.

Godwin pitched an inning and preserved the shutout.

The Eagles had 11 hits.

Stancil also had three hits. Burns had five RBIs.

Parrish had a hit, drew two walks and was hit by pitches twice. Smith had three walks with a single. Godwin, Parrish and Smith had steals as CFCA swiped a total of 13bases.

“The team had patience and discipline at the plate,” said Eagles coach Bill Parrish. “I was very proud of our guys and their mindset in the batters box.

The Eagles turned a double play as Stancil caught a line drive to third and doubled up the NTA runner at first.

The Eagles will travel to Ridgecroft on Friday for a 3 p.m. start, weather permitting.
