Varsity Girls Soccer

Coach Michael Breslin saw room for improvement in a favorable result that put CFCA at 1-1.’

“We had mixed results today,” said the Eagles coach. “Winning is always nice, but there are certainly areas for improvement. We had difficulty transitioning from defense to attack. The defenders were able to stop Lee Christian’s efforts, but then we struggled to advance the ball through the midfield.

“Another area we need to continue to work on is winning the 50-50 balls. My players seemed to be timid when going after the ball. The biggest problem we had was finishing. We had 19 scoring opportunities, including 11 shots on frame. For whatever reason, we just could not find the goal. Having said that, we still managed to win. The defense was really solid. The four backs worked as a unit, supporting each other’s efforts. In particular, Lily Kate Dupree did a great job stopping Lee’s attack.

“Despite our difficulties, we did pull out the victory. In the 25th minute, Lexie Crumley scored off a corner kick from Ella John Dupree and we took a 1-0 lead into the half. Lee Christian scored an equalizer after a scrum in front of our goal. Lexie scored again (unassisted) in the 42nd minute after stealing the ball and cutting through the defenders. In the 52nd minute, Ella John scored an insurance goal from a very nice shot on a ball delivered to her by Gwynn Young. I look forward to the rest of the season and expect the team to continue to gain confidence.”

Middle School baseball

CFCA improved to 2-0 as Tyson Stephens had an inside-the-park home run in addition to a mound stint.

London Hinson and Palmer Ennis hit triples.

Tristan Marlow struck out five.
