Cape Fear Christian Academy hosted Bradford Christian for Mid-Carolina soccer and volleyball matches on Tuesday.
The Eagles swept middle school and varsity volleyball matches, but were edged, 3-2, in varsity boys soccer as the Archers scored a golden goal five minutes into the second 10-minute overtime period.
The CFCA varsity volleyball team improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in league play with a 3-0 win that included set scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-18.
Bailey Dorman had 10 kills and 23 digs. Madeline Brocious had four service aces. Larah Tripp led the Eagles in blocks with eight. Hailey Wangelin contributed 13 digs. Lily Gotlibowski finished with 19 assists.
CFCA will have an Alzheimer’s Awareness Purple-Out as the Eagles host Riverside Christian for nonconference junior varsity and varsity volleyball matches on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m.
Middle School Volleyball
CFCA (8-1) topped Bradford, 2-0 (25-5, 25-4).
Kamryn Knight had 14 aces, serving the first 18 points of the second set.
Mady Tyndall served six aces. Finley Phillips and Avery Lassiter had four each.
Finley Phillips and Sailor Phillips each had two kills.
The Eagles took a 3-0 win at St. Patrick’s of Fayetteville on Monday (25-12, 26-9, 25-8).
Finley Phillips had 11 aces, Avery Lassiter had five. Avery Lassiter had six kills and Mady Tyndall had five.
The Eagles visit St. John Paul II of Southern Pines on Thursday (September 14).
Varsity Boys Soccer
CFCA was missing some starters due to injuries.
“I told the team that we faced a lot of adversity and instead of giving in to it, they found a way and almost pulled out a win,” said Eagles coach Bill Parrish.
CFCA had 13 shots on goal with Cadem Scarborough finding the net twice among his seven shots on goal. Cade Godwin put three shots on the frame, Wyatt Medlin had two and Greyson Avent had one.
Goalie Jakson Cullen had seven saves for the Eagles.
CFCA is 2-3 overall and 1-2 in MCC play going into a nonconference contest on Friday at Wayne Prep.
