Cape Fear Christian Academy’s middle school and varsity boys soccer teams won nonconference matches with visiting Christ the Cornerstone of Laurinburg on Monday.

Eli Shwaikeh scored unassisted goals early in each half to lift CFCA to a 2-1 victory in its middle school opener.

Cade Godwin had two goals as the Eagles got their first varsity win of the season, 3-0. Justin Chestnut was in goal for the shutout, stopping a penalty kick late in the match to preserve the goose egg.

CFCA all-state returner Caden Scarborough angled a shot past the Defenders keeper at 35:42 for a 1-0 CFCA lead.

Girls Tennis

Wake Christian topped CFCA, 5-4, in girls tennis at Triton as the Eagles’ top player, Karson Hamilton, was out with a foot sprain.

Singles winners for the Eagles included Ella Butts at No. 1, Addison Lanpher at No. 4 and Ava Jones at No. 5.

Lanpher and Jones won the No. 3 doubles.

Next action for the Eagles will be a rematch of the 2023 NCISAA 1-A championship against Ridgecroft at Triton on Wednesday, September 4.
