Cape Fear Christian Academy avenged its only Sandhills Athletic Conference varsity volleyball loss by topping visiting Fayetteville Christian, 3-1, on Thursday.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-14.
Reyna Johnson had 12 kills as the Eagles improved to 4-1 in league play. Meredith Taylor had six blocks and Claire Parker added five kills.
“Just about every starter had an ace for the game, but the team we played was a strong serve/receive team so the game really came down to the attackers being smart with their swings and blockers putting up a strong block,” said CFCA coach Brittany Ter Meer. “I have to say defense played lights out. Fayetteville Christian is really smart in their ball placement and defense did amazing — digging up and running down balls.
“Also huge thanks to our men’s basketball team for the support. I definitely think having them there gave the girls some more confidence plus the signs were pretty fun to read!”
CFCA took a 2-0 (25-8, 25-13) win in the junior varsity match.
The middle school Eagle volleyball team remained unbeaten with a pair of 2-0 wins (25-23, 25-14 and 25-10, 25-20) over visiting Berean Baptist to start Thursday’s play. CFCA was down 23-18 in the first game but put together a winning run with Larah Tripp serving.
The Eagles have two home middle school matches with St. Patrick’s on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity home matches with Freedom Christian.
