Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity volleyball team improved to 2-0 on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Father Capodanno in the Eagles’ first home match of the season. Set scores were 25-8, 25-15 and 25-15.
“Although we got the win, I think we were all disappointed in our performance on the court,” said CFCA coach Lolita Tripp. “There were many service errors and quality of play was sporadic at best. The girls felt it and so did I.
“It was a ‘W’ but it was not pretty. I am proud of the girls for recognizing that something was off and still fighting to overcome that for a win.”
For the Eagles, returning all-state player Bailey Dorman had five aces, nine kills and eight digs.
Ella John Dupree had five aces, six kills and two digs for CFCA.
Lily Gotlibowski contributed three aces and 12 assists.
Karlee Edwards finished with an ace and a pair of kills. Madeline Brocious had two kills. Jada Johnsson made six digs. Larah Tripp had six aces, four kills and a block. Perri Caroline Ennis had an ace. Hailey Wangelin had a kill and a dig.
The Eagles travel to St. Thomas More in Raleigh on Tuesday for middle school and varsity matches beginning at 4:30 p.m.
