Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys soccer team took a 4-2 Mid-Carolina Conference win over visiting Cresset Christian of Durham on Thursday before the Eagles honored upperclassmen on Senior Day.
Caden Scarborough had three goals as the Eagles improved to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in league play.
CFCA trailed 2-1 at the half but Scarborough converted a pair of penalty kicks after the break to put the hosts ahead.
Lathan Wilborn had the last goal for the Eagles.
Cole Godwin came up from the back to make a run and appeared to score in the closing seconds, but the goal was not allowed for offsides.
Zeke Brock assisted on Scarborough’s goal in the first half with a throw into the box.
Shots on goal included Scarborough (5), Brock (3), Wilborn (2), Cade Godwin (2), Wyatt Medlin (1) and Thomas Honeycutt (1).
Goalie Jakson Cullen had nine saves in the victory.
Cresset was an improved team from a 6-0 loss at home to CFCA on September 1, but several of the transfer players that have been added to its roster were determined to be ineligible on Friday.
“I told our guys at half that we needed to limit giving Cresset corner kicks and we also needed to improve on clearing the ball out and marking up on those corners,” said Eagles coach Bill Parrish. “I asked them to go out and trust each other. I told them if we do our jobs and clean up our mistakes on set plays, we win this game.
“I was very proud of how we responded and found a way to get a big win for our Seniors.
The Class of 2024 players are Brock, Cullen, Cole Godwin, Medlin and Patrick Raynor.
CFCA completes a match on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at Lee Christian that was suspended due to darkness with the score tied at 4.
