Eagles top Triton in tennis

Cape Fear Christian Academy was an 8-1 winner in girls tennis over host Triton on Wednesday.

The Eagles improved to 8-1 going into a match Tuesday at Harnett Central.

Posting singles wins for CFCA at Nos. 1-5 were Ella John Dupree, Aubrey Jackson, Nina Sauer, Karson Hamilton and Anna Jackson.

Caylon Avery won at No. 6 for Triton (6-3). The Hawks, 4-2 in the All American Conference, are scheduled to return to league play at home against Western Harnett on Monday.

Teaming for doubles wins at Nos. 1-3 on Wednesday were Dupree and Anna Jackson, Aubrey Jackson and Hamilton, and Sauer and Charlotte Aldredge.

“It was a good, all-around effort by everyone,” said CFCA coach Page Jackson of Wednesday’s match. “We had two eighth-graders step up, Lily Kate Dupree and Charlotte Aldredge, and play really well in their first official matches this year.

“Triton is a really good team and it helps us both prepare for conference and state tournaments. I’m pleased to see the girls getting better and better every match.”
