Eagles turn back Crossroads

Crossroads Christian had a 13-12 lead at Cape Fear Christian Academy on Saturday when Asher Fulk hit his third 3-pointer in the first quarter.

The Eagles responded with a 33-4 run for a 45-17 advantage at halftime and topped the Colts, 79-38, in the third round of the NCISAA 1-A boys basketball playoffs.

CFCA had defeated Crossroads, 90-59, in the Senior Classic on November 13.

Eleven players scored for the Eagles (24-7) on Saturday as coach Steve Mims Jr. played two units about equally. Truman Claytor had 12 points. Caden Bell scored 11. Cinque Lemon and Deshawn Woods had 10 points each. Tristin Harkins had nine points. Amari Pearson tallied eight. Jabare Perry scored seven.

Zeke Brock netted four points. Paul Tako and Sila Tako had three points each. Kaleb Siler added two points.

CFCA made 28 of 51 field goal attempts for 55 percent, including seven of 15 from beyond the arc for 47 percent. Woods was 3-for-5 on 3-pointers.

Pearson made all four of his free throws as the Eagles were 16 of 24 at the line.

Siler had seven rebounds. Harkins had four assists. Harkins and Pearson each had three steals.

CFCA, the top seed in the East bracket, hosts United Faith (17-3), the No. 2 seed in the West, in the semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
