East Carolina, Duke, UNC take wins in NCAA baseball

East Carolina opened play in the NCAA baseball tournament regional at Coastal Carolina on Friday with an 11-6 win over Florida.

Host North Carolina topped Holy Cross, 4-0.

Duke rolled past Oklahoma State, 12-5, in the Athens regional at Georgia.

Sophomore left-hander Ethan Norby pitched into the eighth inning for ECU with no walks and 10 strikeouts as the Pirates took a 9-0 lead in their first four turns at the plate. Freshman first baseman Austin Irby had four hits with a double, home run and three RBIs for ECU (34-25).

The Pirates take on host Coastal on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the winners bracket of the double-elimination event.

UNC meets Oklahoma in Chapel Hill on Saturday at 6 p.m. after Jake Knapp pitched eight and one-third innings of the shutout on Friday.

Ben Miller, Tyler Albright and Jake Berger had home runs in the third inning for the Blue Devils, who face Georgia on Saturday at 6 p.m.

N.C. State and Wake Forest play elimination games today.

The Wolfpack meets Central Connecticut State at Auburn at 2 p.m. after falling, 11-2, to Stetson on Friday.

The Demon Deacons, who dropped their opener by an 11-6 score to Cincinnati, are matched up with Miami of Ohio in Knoxville at noon.
