Educators golf adjusts for weather

High numbers became desirable at the 34th annual Harnett County Educators golf tournament at Keith Hills on Monday.

Some of the 39 groups did not complete play due to the weather so the winners in the super ball format were calculated on the percentage of holes where the four-person teams had a birdie.

Orange flight

The group of Ray Mann, Allen Bunch, Braxton Wynns and Bob Hedrick combined to birdie 94.44 percent of their holes for first place in the Orange flight.

Ray Womble, Chris Hendges, Tripp Womble and Michael Honeycutt were second in the top flight with a 92.3 percentage. The team of Chris Mace, Grant Mace, John Costa and Nick Page also had a 92.3 in finishing third. Fourth at 87.6 were Stephen Hales, Matt Smith, Todd Bryant and Josh Diggers.

Fifth went to the group that included tournament director Will Gage, Whit Bradham, Jody Yarbrough and James Harris at 87.5. Sixth in the top flight at 81.3 were Derek Lynch, John Hardee, Lindsey Hardee and Stuart Betts.

Black flight

First place in the second flight went to E.W. Williams, Don Wilson, Elmon Williams and Don Wilson Jr. at 70.5. Dale Coleman, John Chapman, Johnny Parker and Andy Hawley were second at 58.3.

Third went to Bobby Matthews Jr., Todd Matthews, Tyler Matthews and Joey Labowski at 53.3. Jody Milliron, Branda Brown, Ken Gray and Neil Chance claimed fourth at 50. Also shooting 50 and placing fifth were Buck Womack, Gene Wright, Marvin Johnson and Chris Godfrey. Sixth went to Terry Currin, Russell Taylor, Keith Holder and Danny Babb at 45.4.

White flight

Winners of the third flight were Rodney Pope, Tim Holder, Travis Godfrey and Andrew Pope with 76.92. Second were Jeff Carroll, Bill Sutter, Ralph Martin and Mike Brown at 53.84. Donnie Tart, Darrell Hodge, Kevin Tudor and Doug Stevens were third at 44.44.

Fourth were Jennifer Spivey, Brian Turner, Casey Gashaw and Fabian Ashley at 38.88. Taking fifth were Anthony Davis, Michael Boggs, Dalton Davis and William Holder at 35.71. Sixth went to Ted Cummings, Blake Adams, Fred Cummings and Ned Cummings at 33.33.

Teams were flighted before play began based on handicaps.

Individual prize winners

There were prizes awarded for each hole on the Orange, Black and White nines.

Awards on the Orange nine went to Braxton Wynns on No. 1 for closest second shot, Nick Page on No. 2 for closest third shot, Wynns on No. 3 for closest to the pin, Andrew Pope on No. 4 for longest putt and John Hardee on No. 5 for closest to the pin. No award was listed on No. 6 at the presentations ceremony.

Bobby Brown was closet to the pin on No. 7 and Brown had the closest second shot on No. 8. No award was listed on No. 9.

On the Black nine, Ashley Ennis had the closest second shot on No. 1, Perry Ennis had the closest second shot on No. 2, Matt Smith had the closest second shot on No. 3, Todd Bryant hit the longest drive on No. 4, Brent Davis was closest to the pin on No. 5, Tony Lewis made the longest putt on No. 6, Jody Yarbrough hit the closest second shot on No. 7, Don Wilson Jr. was closest to the pin on No. 8 and Larry Byrd had the longest drive on No. 9.

On the White nine, Ken Gray had the closest second shot on No. 1, Aaron Hinson had the closest second shot on No. 2, Neil Chance had the closest second shot on No. 3, Joey Labowski for closest to the pin on No. 4, Keith Holder for longest putt on No. 5, Timmy Holder for longest drive on No. 6, William Holder for closest to the pin on No. 7, Mike Brown for closest second shot on No. 8 and Andrew Pope for longest drive on No. 9.
