A veteran Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team was ready when called to compete in scrimmages at Triton on Friday, registering some decisive outcomes as a fill-in for North Duplin, which withdrew.
The Eagles topped the host Hawks by 12 points, defeated Hobbton by 22 and outscored Clinton by 20.
CFCA coach Dwain Ellis has all of his starters plus primary reserves returning from a team that went 16-11 and reached the NCISAA 1-A playoff semifinals.
Coach Ellis gave a summary of how players performed during the offseason effort.
Elijah Ellis “Defense was superior.”
Caden Scarborough “Led the team with great pace. Got everyone involved and was efficient scoring.”
Kayden Dunkins “Extremely patient scoring the ball. And scored at will.”
Cade Godwin “Shot lights out each game and handed pressure very well.”
Lathan Wilborn “Protected the basket like a man and dominated in the post.”
Justin Chestnutt “Rebounded like a maniac bouncing all over for offensive rebounds and put backs.”
Eli Burns “Defended extremely well and shot well each game.”
Eli Shwekeh “Learned a lot as an upcoming freshman. He shot lights out and is working to fit right in for next season.”
