After being suspended for heavy rainfall on Thursday, the final day of the Tar Heel Leagues District III 10-under baseball tournament resumed on Monday at Al Woodall Park with host Erwin defeating Western Harnett American in an elimination game before falling in the championship to Sandhills.
In the first game of the day, Erwin beat Western Harnett 16-1 to advance to the championship.
Starter Eli Burns was the winning pitcher for Erwin, giving up one earned run on one hit, five walks and one hit batter, with one strikeout. Brody Ennis pitched one perfect relief inning, including two strikeouts.
Conner Parrish, Palmer Ennis and Aiden McNeill each had one hit and two runs scored for Erwin. Kaiden Jensen had a triple and a run scored. Brody Ennis and Caleb Flowers each had one hit and one run scored. Austin Williams had one hit. Kymere McNeill and Burns scored two runs apiece. Chase Gregory, Jaylen Johnson and Landon McLamb scored one run apiece.
Alexander Strunk had one hit and Aiden Kirk had one run scored for Western Harnett American.
In the second game, Sandhills took a 22-3 win over Erwin to claim the championship.
Jensen and Parrish each had one hit and one run scored. Williams had one run scored for Erwin.
Lucas Blackwood had four hits and four runs scored for Sandhills. Jake Grimsley had three hits and four runs scored.
