Erwin wins 10-U baseball opener

Erwin’s 10-and-under baseball All-Stars are shown during Tuesday evening’s national anthem in Southern Pines.

Erwin’s 10-and-under baseball All-Stars played their first district tournament game at Memorial Park Field A in Southern Pines on Tuesday and took a 15-12 win over Western Harnett.

Zamonte McDougald was the winning pitcher. Kaiden Sherman pitched the last two innings.

Leading hitters for Erwin were McDougald, Brayden Bates, Laxton Hodge, Conner Parrish, Joseph West and Sherman.

Sandhills defeated Angier 21-0 on Tuesday.

Western Harnett plays Parkwood at 6 tonight and Erwin meets Sandhills at 8.

In the 12-and-under at Angier, Sandhills won the district championship, 12-0, over the host team.

In the 15-and-under at Broadway, Western topped Angier, 9-0, and Erwin topped Southern Pines, 11-9. Lee Giles, Xavier Monk and Jake Tyndall were the leading hitters for Erwin.
