The second night of the Tar Heel Leagues District III 10-Under softball tournament on Wednesday saw host Erwin defeat Western Harnett before Western fought off Parkwood in an elimination game to earn a rematch with Erwin in Thursday’s championship.
One day after opening the tournament, Erwin took a 10-1 win over Western Harnett to advance to the championship round.
Sydney Bradham pitched a complete game win for Erwin, yielding one earned run on one hit, with 15 strikeouts.
Charley Beasley had two hits and three runs scored and Megan Harrold had two hits and one run scored to lead Erwin at the plate.
Bradham had two hits. Mackenzie Lucas had one hit and two runs scored. Grace Foisy had a triple and one run scored. Bryleigh Smith and Adison Bowden each had one hit and one run scored. Leigha Roberts scored once.
Virginia Howsden had one hit and Natalie Taylor scored once for Western.
In the second game of the day, Western Harnett took a 9-5 win in an elimination game against Parkwood.
Destiny Bryant had three hits, including a double, and two runs scored and Madison Wear had three hits, including a double, and one run scored to lead Western at the plate.
Serenity McLean had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Morgan McCauley had two hits and one run scored. Howsden and Yasmin Macias each had one hit and one run scored. Destiny McKendall scored once.
Avery Norris had two hits and one run scored to lead Parkwood.
Erwin and Western Harnett will meet in the championship series starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Erwin needs just one win to claim the district title. A Western Harnett win would force another game immediately after to decide the championship.
