Host Freedom Christian took a pair of Sandhills Athletic Conference varsity basketball wins Friday over Cape Fear Christian Academy after the Eagles pulled out a 65-63 win on a steal and score by Zeke Brock in the closing seconds.
The CFCA varsity boys were topped 78-76 in overtime despite a 27-point effort by Riley Adams, who hit all 11 of his free throws.
The CFCA girls had a 38-29 lead going into the fourth quarter before the Patriots came back to win, 54-50. The Lady Eagles are 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the SAC.
Kristen Bass had 13 points for the CFCA girls, Aubree Bass scored 11 and Leah Brannon tallied 10. Talisha McNeill contributed nine points, Meredith Taylor had five points and Jada Horne netted one point.
The Eagle varsity boys (17-8, 2-2 SAC) got 18 points from Lucas Capalbo, 14 from E.J. Bethea, 10 from Dillon Butler and seven from Ramiro Arrillaga.
Arrillaga, Butler and Capalbo had five rebounds each. Arrillaga had three assists and Adams had three steals.
Brock finished with 22 points for the JV boys. DeShawn Woods had 16 points. Owen Gregory scored 15. Jaden Crumley netted six points. Dolan Adams, Reid Miller and Jakson Cullen added two points each.
“We had great support from the bench,” said CFCA JV coach Dwain Ellis. “They kept the team afloat when Owen and DeShawn were benched with three fouls each early in the second quarter.”
CFCA hosts Trinity Christian for league games on Tuesday.
